A few weeks ago we added 2 new GTD cell phones to assist with our mission trips in Costa Rica. Then today, we added a 3rd phone to the mix for visiting groups to use during their stay.
We looked at our options when we were here in February and found that Costa Rica had just opened up the country to allow for free market cellphone competition among mobile phone companies. For the first time in Costa Rica's history there are now companies who can compete for customers against the government run Electricity Institute known as ICE.
That's great news for the Costa Rican people and GTD as it has driven down prices, enhanced cell phone availability, improved call quality, and increased coverage areas. It's a win-win-win-win for everyone. In US terms, purchasing a cell phone is super easy and super cheap. Our new cell phones cost around $36 each with no contracts required. We just pay as we go, and a few bucks goes a long ways down here!
Over the last 2 years La Fortuna de Bagaces has added 2 new cell phone towers. And new towers seem to be popping up everywhere. That means calls are crisp and clear here at the church and throughout the region.
When we first started doing mission trips down here seven years ago it was difficult to get a cell phone and there were a lot of dead zones. Now we can communicate easily when seperated, be well prepared for emergencies, and offer groups (and their families back home) the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved ones are only a phone call away.
In Costa Rica they use 8 digits for their phone numbers. Below are GTD's 3 new cell phone numbers... feel free to text us an encouraging note throughout the week!!
