Unfortunately my cell phone battery died half way through our backpacking trip so I was unable to keep the updates flowing. I'm excited to say that our backpacking trip with Landry Academy was phenomenal!! We completed a 21 mile section (or 1/100th of the entire 2186 miles) of the Appalachian Trail with 25 people (broken into 3 separate smaller groups) over a period of 4 days and 3 nights. The whole trip lasted 7 days and included 3 days at base camps. The entire group excelled while becoming proficient at setting up camp, rain-proofing shelter & gear, purifying water, cooking camp meals, nightly bear-proofing remaining food, breaking down camp, properly packing backpacks, and countless other backpacking skills that will prepare them for building their own future backpacking and camping adventures. In addition, I'm beyond thrilled with the GTD & Landry Staff and their hard work, personal sacrifice, and Christ-centered attitudes displayed throughout our 7 day adventure. I'm beyond excited about our partnership with Landry Academy and all that God has in store for the future. Our next event with Landry is a 17 mile backpacking trip in August on a trail that crosses a river over 40 times. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!
