After spending the day in Williams on the historic Route 66 (walking the main street, checking out the local shops & having lunch at The Singing Pig) we went back to enjoy our cabin & a home cooked meal. Laurie & Fred made a delicious spaghetti dinner with salad & garlic bread!! Yummy!! We are heading to bed early tonight because we have an early morning and full day ahead tomorrow. We are leaving the cabin at 5:30am to go catch the sunrise at the Grand Canyon... then we are hiking down into the canyon. We are very excited!! More to come... good night :)

Dinner In The Cabin
After spending the day in Williams on the historic Route 66 (walking the main street, checking out the local shops & having lunch at The Singing Pig) we went back to enjoy our cabin & a home cooked meal. Laurie & Fred made a delicious spaghetti dinner with salad & garlic bread!! Yummy!! We are heading to bed early tonight because we have an early morning and full day ahead tomorrow. BEARIZONA
We visited a local zoo in Williams today called "Bearizona". It was a really cool place. Part of it was a drive-thru zoo & the other section was a walk-thru. We saw bears, wolves, bison, mules, bobcats, lynx, foxes, birds of prey... and so many other animals. It's always a mixed feeling visiting a zoo. On one hand we feel sorry for the animal that was made to be free having to be confined to a fenced off section of land. On the other hand there is an appreciation to be able to see these amazing creatures that God took time to design. All-in-all it was a great experience for us humans. We spent about 3 hours watching these awesome animals.

Day 3
Today is a day for resting up from our very active day yesterday and for our big hike into the Canyon tomorrow. This morning we shared highlights from our first day at the Canyon with one another. We also read from Philippians 2. Phil 2 is a very meaty chapter full of so many golden nuggets that we could of spent hours on in study. At the moment we are on our way to drive thru Bearizona wildlife park.
More Pics
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how many words is a picture of something that leaves you speechless worth? As Fred Byda keeps saying, "Great job God!"

God's Masterpiece
We have had a full day of soaking in one of the most incredible places my eyes have ever seen, the Grand Canyon! We walked, took a bus and drove to many different locations along the South Rim today, and with every different view we were awestruck with God's beautiful masterpiece. Collectively, I think it's safe to say between all of us we took thousands of photos and not one is alike. It's kind of how when we read from the bible this morning God spoke to each of us in a different way and showed us each something different. It's been an amazing day and we are so grateful to be so lavishly blessed by God's blessings.
In Route To Grand Canyon!!
We just departed the cabin and we are on our way to one of the seven wonders of the world - The Grand Canyon!!!

So Much To Do!!
Laurie & I will arrive in AZ tomorrow morning - a day before our 5 person group of adventurers arrive on Thursday. We will spend Wed getting the mini van rented and other items in place as well as visit some family & friends in the area.
Leaving for 1 week is always difficult from the administration side. I still have 2 months worth of emails to review & reply back to as well as a ton of office work piled up on my desk. I use small pieces of lime green paper as my "pop-up" notes & reminders. As I'm working and a new to-do or idea pops up in my head I quickly write it down on my lime green piece of paper and set it into a stack (I have 1 stack for "urgent - do it asap" & 1 stack for "later"). Currently I have 40+ "pop-up" notes. If I don't write it down immediately then I will likely forget about it as I continue to tackle "The Pile" of daily, weekly & monthly routine tasks that are all part of running a ministry / non-profit business.Although I can't wait to get to the Grand Canyon, the pile of unfinished work always makes it difficult to leave... and a little overwhelming to return. In these moments it's great to be reminded that there is only one real focus that I need to concentrate on each day and that is completely surrendering to Jesus & sitting at His feet. Luke 10:38-42 displays this way better than I ever could:
Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

ASTOUNDING Benefits From Attending Church!
Ongoing studies by Dr. Pat Fagan* have revealed the ASTOUNDING benefits that come from regular church attendance. This is no small matter. Below are the lists of ways that regular church attendance both benefits us and protects us as we navigate through this great adventure called life. The entire article can be read on our website here.
(*Dr. Fagan is the director of the Center for Research on Marriage and Religion and Senior Fellow at the Marriage and Religion Research Institute in Washington, D.C.)
THE BENEFITS OF GOING TO CHURCH REGULARLY:
1) Increased marital happiness
2) Increased marital stability
3) Stronger parent-child relationships
4) Greater educational aspirations
5) Greater educational attainment (especially among the poor)
6) Higher performance in college
7) Higher levels of good work habits
8) Increased longevity
9) Increased physical health
10) Increased well-being
11) Increased happiness
12) Higher recovery rates from addictions to alcohol or drugs
13) Increased self-control
14) Increased self-esteem
15) Increased coping skills
16) Increased rates of charitable donations
17) Increased rates of volunteering
18) Higher levels of community cohesion
19) Increased social support for those in need
20) Helps young people escape inner-city poverty
21) Contributes to sound moral judgement
22) Aids in reducing crime
23) Aids in reforming criminals
24) Increased positive attitudes towards school
25) Increased total years of schooling
26) Improved school attendance
27) Improved emphasis on homework
THE WAYS REGULAR CHURCH ATTENDANCE PROTECTS US:
1) Decreased divorce rates
2) Lower cohabitation rates
3) Lower rates of out-of-wedlock births
4) Lower levels of teen sexual activity
5) Less abuse of alcohol and drugs
6) Decreased rates of suicide
7) Decreased rates of depression
8) Decreased rates of suicide ideation
9) Lower levels of many infectious diseases
10) Decreased rates of juvenile crime
11) Decreased rates of violent crime
12) Decreased rates of domestic violence
13) Protects against many social problems
14) Powerfully reduces socially deviant activity
15) Reduced likelihood of becoming a criminal
16) Decreased rates of getting into trouble at school
17) Decreased rates of poor grades
18) Less likely to engage in risky behavior
I could also add many more reasons to go to church such as increased spiritual growth, encouragement that comes through corporate worship, mission trip & ministry outreach opportunities, incredibly fun planned events like camps and road trips, lifelong deep friendships, the potential of meeting your future spouse, free Bible & education classes, free addiction recovery classes, free marriage classes, inspiration, more effective ministry as the entire Body of Christ works together, and on and on.
Obviously the church is made up of imperfect people at different stages of their personal journey with Christ so there is always the potential for the downsides that come with any community. But if we realize that ahead of time and we don't let that discourage us from obeying God by going to church then the blessings that flow will profoundly impact your life and the lives around you. Just make sure you find a church that doesn't compromise the Word of God... then GO... and GO regularly. Just knowing about a good church doesn't enable you to experience the blessings that can only come through GOING TO CHURCH. You may have a few reasons not to go to church, but God just gave you over 45 great reasons to GO.

End of the Month = Finances
If it's the end / beginning of the month in the GTD office then that means it's financial accounting time. Although I have accounting tasks every week of the month, it's during the last week & the first week of each month that I spend a concentrated amount of time entering monthly statements, paying the upcoming month's bills, sending out invoices, setting up payroll checks, paying payroll taxes, archiving receipts, creating financial status reports, making deposits, sending out contratcs & occassionally having to track down people who haven't paid what they owe us. With the exception of having to sometimes be a collections agency, I LOVE the accounting part of running an organization. It's very time consuming, but praise God that my spiritual gift is administration so like any other admin geek I can't wait to organize everything, including our ministry finances!! Like most non-profits we aren't in this for the money (Oh, I've got tons of proof I can show you to validate this point - LOL!!), but as an organization & a business if you neglect or minimize the importance of finanial stability & financial order then your organization will quickly cease to exist. Finances to a Christian ministry is much like oxygen is to the body. Your body doesn't live to breathe; it breathes to live. My body doesn't focus on breathing; it focuses on living. Breathing helps fuel the living. As a ministry we focus on glorifying God through our Programs, the finances help support the focus. If we "hold our breath" as a ministry and deny the importance of God's establishment of an economy then we will soon suffer hypoxia (lack of oxygen) then become sluggish followed by unconsciouness followed by death. We weren't designed to serve both God & money (Matt 6:24). We were designed to serve God and wisely manage our resources & finances (Matt 25:14-30). It's the end of the month which means it's time to assess our "breathing" and "oxygen levels" so we can get back to the business of living... fully living in & for Jesus Christ that is.

DOG vs TRIMMER
One of the more glamourous parts of working for GTD is the doggie maintenance. It took over 2 hrs to trim (or should I say "butcher") Courage... and she is the "easy" one - LOL!! Soon it will be Faith's turn... oh happy day, happy day ;)

2012 Preliminary Calendar
S2R: September to Remember
It was a GREAT & full summer! I've been back in the office for a little over a week and working non-stop till 3am every night on revising our 2011 fall calendar, nailing down our 2012 calendar, preparing for our Annual Banquet, entering financial data from the summer, and working on several potential private events that may be lined up over the next 12 months. I look forward to sharing all the updates with all our GTD fans out there. All I can say is, "Put on your seatbelt, because it's going to be an intense fun ride!"
...now, back to work!
PS: Don't forget to sign up for some S2R events... you will have a blast... and help a great cause =)
