NOTABLE DESTINATIONS AND OPTIONAL ACTIVITY LOCATIONS:

  • THE NORTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON IS A RARELY SEEN JEWEL! Because of its remote location and long distance from major airports the North Rim of the Grand Canyon has only been visited by a relatively small percentage of people. In fact, of the nearly 5 million people that visit the Grand Canyon each year only about 10% take the journey to behold the beauty of the North Rim.

  • HORSESHOE BEND IS ABSOLUTELY JAW-DROPPINGLY BEAUTIFUL! Without a doubt, this one destination is worth going on the entire trip. Horseshoe Bend is one of the most photographed sections of the Colorado River and has made the cover of many magazines. Even though it is technically a few miles outside of the Grand Canyon National Park boundaries and considered a part of Glenn Canyon National Recreation Area, it is every bit a part of the Grand Canyon experience. In fact, it is sometimes referred to as, "The Intimate Grand Canyon Destination". The cliffs drop 1000 feet into the beautiful Colorado River. AND, if you've signed up for GTD's canoe camping adventure of a lifetime, you will be canoeing around this bend and camping our overnight on its shores!

  • MAJESTIC LAKE POWELL IN PAGE, AZ! This breathtaking lake will literally be in our backyard while we stay in Page, AZ. The lake resulted from the building of Glenn Canyon Dam in 1966 and boasts of over 2000 miles of shoreline and reaches depths of over 500 feet. Its waters originate from northern melted snow. Lake Powell has nearly 100 major side canyons and is the adventure destination of nearly 2 million people every year. Over 35 films have used Lake Powell for movie scenes including Charlton Heston’s The Greatest Story Ever Told, Planet of the Apes, and more recently Sandra Bullock's Gravity. We will have kayaking and boating opportunities on this magnificent lake!

  • ANTELOPE SLOT CANYON TOURS WILL LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS! You will have the option to add-on a walking tour through the most photographed slot canyons in the world. Their incredible beauty will leave you awestruck and speechless. Their graceful elegance is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to behold.

  • NORTH KAIBAB HIKING TRAIL ON THE NORTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON! This day hike is a non-stop feast for the eyes! You can make it as short as you want or hike down into the canyon for a few miles. But don't forget that going down is the easier part. How far you traverse down is how far you have to ascend back up.

  • MARBLE CANYON AND THE NAVAJO BRIDGE! Marble Canyon marks the official start of the northern boundary of the Grand Canyon. This is where most white water rafters set off for their multiweek adventure down the Colorado River. Because this is where the white water rapids begin it is also why this is where GTD's smooth water canoe camping trek ends. The Navajo Bridge spans 833 feet across Marble Canyon and is 1 of only 7 land crossings over the Colorado River for 750 miles. There are 2 bridges in the picture above. One of them is the original Navajo Bridge that is now closed off to vehicles and the other is the new bridge which was opened in 1995. These arch bridges stand 466 feet above the Colorado River.

  • GLEN CANYON DAM IN PAGE, AZ! At 710 feet this dam is one of the largest concrete dams in the world. Although Glen Canyon Dam is 16 feet shorter than Hoover Dam it is actually larger in bulk. It is located in Page, AZ and will be the starting point for those canoeing down the Colorado River and camping overnight at Horseshoe Bend.

  • HOOVER DAM! This world famous dam stands 726 feet tall and is one of the largest dams in the world. It is located in Las Vegas, NV and will be one of the many wonderful sights we see on this God-awesome adventure.

  • A DRIVE DOWN THE LAS VEGAS STRIP. Since your flights land and depart from Las Vegas we will be driving down the world famous Las Vegas Strip as we kick off our adventure together.

  OPTIONAL UPGRADED ADVENTURES:

  • ***BUCKET LIST*** CANOE TRIP DOWN THE COLORADO RIVER AND CAMPING AT HORSESHOE BEND (OPTIONAL) (Add $150) (This is an OPTIONAL once-in-a-lifetime PADDLE down the Colorado River and Camping at the base of Horseshoe Bend.)  Paddlers will be backhauled up the Colorado River starting at the Glen Canyon Dam.  This 15.6 mile paddle is full of stunning views of towering rock walls bursting with color and shadows at every turn of the canyon's red sandstone walls.  Paddlers will camp out one night along the shore of the Colorado River at Horseshoe Bend to wake to incredible peaceful views of a gorgeous 1,000 foot rock wall before finishing up the remainder of their paddle. Since the Colorado River flows at a steady and pretty quick pace there is very little need to paddle hard other than to steer your canoe. The river is also super abundant with trout.

  • ANTELOPE SLOT CANYONS (OPTIONAL) (Add $45.00) (This is another OPTIONAL once-in-a-lifetime experience sought after by photographers worldwide!) Participants will venture through this one of a kind natural wonder sculpted into sandstone by trapped flash flood waters.  The texture, color, shadows, height and artistry of these corkscrew red walls make Antelope Canyon an awe inspiring site to see and one you won't want to miss!

  • KAYAK RENTAL - (OPTIONAL) (Add $45) You won't want to miss out on this amazing adventure as we take a pontoon boat ride on Lake Powell from Antelope Point Marina to the entrance to Antelope Slot Canyon and get on our sit-on-top kayaks and paddle our way through this majestic canyon. We may even find a safe place to do some short cliff jumps!

- THE GRAND CANYON -
Did you know?

- The Grand Canyon is One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World -
EXCERPTS FROM WONDERCLUB.COM & NPS.GOV

- The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is the largest gorge in the world - a 290-mile-long gash across the face of the Colorado Plateau in northern Arizona. Rim to rim, it measures up to 18 miles across, with an average width of 10 miles; its average depth is one mile. Within this Delaware-size area of eroded rock rise mountains higher than any in the eastern United States... the Colorado River drops 2,200 feet over nearly 200 rapids as it roars through the Canyon toward the Gulf of California. Numbers, though, tell only part of the canyon's story and merely hint at the magic of its myriad hues, strata, spires, and gorges. The place is more than the sum of its parts - so much more that neither the eye nor the mind of the beholder can encompass more than a small part of it at one time. As John Wesley Powell, whose party in 1869 became the first to traverse the canyon by river, wrote, "You cannot see the Grand Canyon in one view, as if it were a changeless spectacle from which a curtain might be lifted."

- Nearly five million people see the 1 mile deep Grand Canyon each year. Most of them see it from the South Rim which is the most accessible part of the park and is open all year.

The Bible states a simple, but profound truth - creation reveals a Creator:

      <>< Romans 1:20
"For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature."

      <>< Psalms 19:1
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

Oftentimes we are so surrounded by man-made things that we are only reminded of the concrete testiments of man. It becomes easy to forget the power of God as we stop noticing the evidence of His power - creation. One of the many ways that God speaks is through His creation. It's one of the ways He humbles us while at the same time fills us up with deep appreciation and even deeper faith.
